Julia Geynisman-Tan is a Pelvic Reconstructive Surgeon in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Northwestern University in 2019 after completing her residency at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell. She is an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Director of Fellow Research for the Division of Urogynecology.

 

Dr. Geynisman-Tan founded the Erase Clinic in 2016 and currently serves as the clinic's medical director as well as an asylum evaluator for women who have experienced female genital circumcision. She has been working with survivors on human trafficking since 2012 when she founded the Survivor Clinic of New York City, a grant-funded clinic for women who had experienced sexual violence, including trafficking, female genital mutilation, and torture in war. She is on the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force and has previously served on the board of the HEAL Trafficking Network and Physicians Against Trafficking of Humans. Dr. Geynisman-Tan has trained a number of health professionals on identifying and responding to trafficking in healthcare settings.

Her clinical interests include the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse, sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, and fistulas. Her research interests are optimizing the perioperative experience for patients and in the intersection of sexual practices and pelvic floor disorders.
